Today P2/3 had 2 ladies from Derry City & Strabane District Council doing a 'Bridges' workshop with them in class.

First they showed us lots of lovely pictures from the area in the council and we identified and discussed them.

There were lovely pictures of bridges - 7 large ones in this area in total - and the children shared their knowledge and experiences of the bridges.

Then as a team we worked together to  build a bridge from cardboard and everyone's pole structure was taped together before a road way was put across the top.

And guess what!!?? We were all able to walk across the bridge - even Mrs Harper!!!

Greeted by our lovely guide Matthew we were taken on a tour of the supermarket and given access to some special areas including the bakery and the checkout desk. The children had a wonderful time and have documented their trip through photos they took on the school ipads.

Continuing on with our food theme, the children have been exploring the work of Guiseppe Arcimboldo. Giuseppe Arcimboldo was an Italian painter best known for creating imaginative portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, and books. The children have used a variety of two and three dimensional materials to create their own Giuseppe portraits. You can see for yourself the results are amazing!
