Celebrating Two Exceptional Educators at Artigarvan Primary School and Community Nursery

The school community in Artigarvan is coming together to celebrate the remarkable careers of two dedicated teachers as Mrs Doherty and Mrs Harper retire after more than 30 years of outstanding service in education.

Both their teaching journeys began at Glenagoorland Primary School, just outside Donemana, where they inspired and nurtured generations of young learners. Sadly, due to declining pupil numbers, Glenagoorland Primary School closed its doors in 2001. However, their commitment to education continued as they both joined the staff of Artigarvan Primary School and Community Nursery, where they have remained ever since.

Over the years, both ladies have made an immeasurable contribution to the life of the school. Through their kindness, patience and dedication, they have helped countless children develop not only academically but also personally, leaving a lasting impact on generations of pupils and their families.

Eight years ago, Mrs Harper took on the role of Principal, leading the school with vision, compassion and unwavering commitment. Under her leadership, Artigarvan Primary School and Community Nursery has continued to thrive, maintaining a warm, welcoming environment where every child is encouraged to reach their full potential.

Mrs Doherty, as the P6/7 teacher, has played a vital role in preparing pupils for the next stage of their educational journey. Her enthusiasm, encouragement and belief in every child have earned her the respect and affection of colleagues, pupils and parents alike.

While both ladies will be greatly missed, their legacy will remain within the walls of Artigarvan Primary School and in the hearts of all those whose lives they have touched throughout their careers.

On behalf of the entire school community, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Mrs Doherty and Mrs Harper for their exceptional hard work, dedication and commitment over more than three decades of service. We wish them both a long, happy and well-deserved retirement filled with good health, happiness and many new adventures.
