We have been doing lots of sorting in class. Questions we think about are: what’s the same, what’s different? This helps us to choose a way to sort the items. The children have been sorting by shape, size and colour.
This week we’ve been learning the rhyme ‘Humpty dumpty’. We decided to think of a rescue plan to prevent any more eggs from smashing. The children came up with some ideas as to how we could protect Humpty Dumpty. Some of the ideas were quite elaborate, using bouncy castles for the egg to bounce off. As we couldn’t get our hands on a bouncy castle, we thought of materials we could wrap the end in. The children came up with water, cotton wool, pasta and sponges. We took the eggs outside and predicted which material we thought would be best. Finally Mrs Kane dropped the eggs and the children decided wether it would a good material to use or not. We had so much fun!
Our topic this term is 'A time to rhyme'. To begin, we have been learning the nursery rhyme Miss Polly had a dolly. The children have enjoyed reciting the rhyme and sequencing the pictures. In class our play activities have been based around the nursery rhyme to extend our learning and knowledge. The children have a fantastic understanding of how to look after children who are feeling unwell, they have been sharing their own experiences of when they've felt sick and have used this to play doctors and nurses in our role-play area. Our school nurse paid our class a visit to explain how hospitals and doctors can help us when we are sick. The children brought a doll or teddy to school to care for it, they applied bandages and plasters and some 'doctors' were on hand to make important notes and administer medicine if needed. What a busy time we've had!
Off we went on our Spring walk around the village. We found daffodils, buds on trees, bird nests and baby lambs. After a successful walk we enjoyed a little play in the play park with our friends. A lovely day for sure!
