We are so fortunate to have had a visit in school from an award-winning author, Stuart Reid. He shared snippets from his latest series of books- 'The Gorgeous George' series. The parts that he shared with us were hilarious, they also included alliteration which has inspired some of the children to include this in their writing more often. Stuart shared stories behind the inspiration for his writing, including a story about a panda from Edinburgh Zoo, these were shared to us with hilarious video clips as Stuart read poems and storied from his books.
Have a look at his website below for more information about his books and writing.
In our school we have extremely kind and helpful parents. William kindly offered to bring along a tractor to school for our children to have a look at. The children were filled with excitement as they saw the red Massey sitting in the car park. William carefully explained to the children, the various parts on a tractor and their purposes. You could tell the children were fascinated as their eyes were fixed on William, listening carefully to the information. Lots of our children come from farming backgrounds, they were able to share their own knowledge and experiences.
We left knowing some interesting facts
- the tractor has 100horsepower
- it runs on diesel
- their is a dipstick to check the oil level
- you can find a toolbox on the front
- the engine is at the front
- the exhaust runs up to the side of the window
- you can attach a link box at the back of the tractor
Each of the children then got a chance to climb up into the tractor and have a look around, there was a lot of excitement to say the least!
A huge thanks to William for taking the time to provide such a fantastic experience for the children in our school!
Today we had a visit from our local vet, Lindsay from Parkview in Strabane. She brought a very well-behaved puppy with her too! We learned so much today about farm animals, pets and exotic animals too! Lindsay told us about the tools she uses to check the animals, they looked similar to those found in our doctors. The children asked fantastic questions at the end. Jonny wanted to know what the biggest animal Lindsay had helped was- to our surprise, she told us about how she had helped insert a micro-chip into an elephant which was with a circus in Strabane!
Well done to everyone who entered our Easter competition. As always, the standard of the items made were outstanding. Mrs Craig and Liz had a very tough job judging the work. Everyone enjoyed visiting the hall to look at everyone's creations.
