We started learning about length this week. Children are confident in estimating and measuring in centimetres and metres. We engaged in fun activities where we measured things in our classroom and parts of our body using rulers and tape measures. Today, we went outside to measure the length of some dinosaurs using trundle wheels. The largest one we measured was the ultrasaurus which was 30 metres long! Check out our photos.
50 boys and girls headed off to Castlederg to take part in a local cross-country competition.
The children took part in several races, the course was very long and had several changes in terrain. Everyone gave their all and came back to school with a smile on their face and muck on their clothes.
Have a look at some of the photos, can you spot yourself?
We would like to thank Mr Lowry from Edwards Primary School for the invitation.
Thank you to Darren who comes to school every Tuesday morning for chanter lessons with the boys and girls in P5, 6 and 7 who have signed up.
Year 6/7 had great fun this afternoon making some chocolate treats! We think we may have a few chefs in the future!
Today the nursery children had lots of fun dunking for apples and we also had a mini disco dancing to some music! The boys and girls looked fabulous in all of their costumes! 🕷🧙🏻♀️👻
Happy Halloween boys and girls and see you after your half term holidays.
Year 3 headed on their pedestrian walk in the village as they complete the Step out with Skooter Road Safety Programme. They stopped off at the school gate to investigate the road markings and safety barrier before heading in the direction of Church View. The children discussed with Miss Hicks about the best place to cross the road and everyone knew not to cross in between parked cars. We safely made it back to school ready to complete our road safety booklets.
This morning we welcomed members of the Royal British Legion to school for a special assembly to launch the Poppy Appeal this year. This was a great opportunity for the children to learn about the Poppy Appeal and ask questions to the members of The Royal Bristish Legion. Poppies and other poppy items will be available to purchase in school after half term with all money raised going to The Poppy Appeal 2022.
All of our Year 1 children received a gift from the Education Authority's Education Library Service and BookTrust NI.
Every child in Year 1 received a Time to Read pack. The pack this year contains the book "We're going to find the Monster" by Malorie Blackman and Dapo Adeola alongside some top tips for reading together, a colouring sheet, spot-the-difference and a QR code to watch the story being read out loud.
Research shows that a child who reads for pleasure will do better at school, even in subjects like maths. Not only that, but if a family read books together, it's a great way to bond, talk about the day, and have a lot of fun!
