Latest News - Miss Moore

Last week we read the story 'Oliver's fruit salad'. Our tummies were rumbling at the thought of eating the delicious, sweet fruit so we decided to make our own. First we created lists using commas, selecting the fruits we would like to put into the fruit salad. On Monday we made our fruit salad and enjoyed them together. We tried new fruits and looked forward to our favourite fruit- strawberries and bananas! We will post some photos soon of our delicious salads and our fantastic writing too.

This week, we have been making our very own 'The very hungry caterpillar' books in class. We have been talking about how we need to eat healthily, but it is okay to have an occasional treat. To that end, we decided everyone on the class deserved a treat. The children went in small groups and measured the ingredients, then baked the buns in the oven. On the following day we decorated the buns using icing and chocolate treats. Lastly, we enjoyed the buns in class, they were delicious!

Mrs Doherty held a meeting for parents to explain the PIN project which is taking place with Year 2 and Year 5 children within our school. The children will be playing Maths games for 6 weeks in place of written homework. For parents who were unable to attend, please view the presentation to familiarise yourself with the project. Happy gaming!

We have started our buddy reading system in school where Miss Hicks' class read to the children in Mrs Kane's class. The year 4 children have been considering the level of books to choose and will now begin to choose books the children are interested in and will enjoy.

Kenzie from Action Cancer came to read us a story about Genevieve hand the farmyard animals. The animals had to train for sports day, she made sure to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables everyday. We then played a game where we voted on certain foods deciding if they are good, okay, or bad for us. We talked about some activities we might do after school, watching t.v., playing games on the PlayStation and riding our bike. The children were surprised to find out that watching t.v. and gaming is not a healthy choice. 

Parents  of pupils in Years 2 and 5 are invited to come along on Monday 29th January at 3.15pm to find out about an exciting new project involving all pupils, parents and teachers in Years 2 and 5. Pupils and parents will get to play maths games instead of some written homework for 6 weeks!

NSPCC Numeracy Day is on Friday 2nd February! To celebrate all pupils in Artigarvan will be playing maths games! A super fun maths day for a really good cause!

On Thursdays we have fun PE lessons with Lisa. Today we played cats and mice and mini dodgeball, it was so much fun! Remember to send PE kits for your child to wear on Thursdays! 

This week we have been reading the story of Goldilocks and the three bears. Now that we know the story really well, we drew a story map together so we can walk along the story to remind us of what happened. Goldilocks and the three bears LOVE porridge, in our class we're not so sure about it so we are going to make our own, add some toppings and try it for ourselves. We will update you when we do this!
