This week we have been looking at the different letters in our name.  A lot of children are able to recognise their own name and some can make an attempt at writing it by themselves. This activity helped to develop our hand eye co-ordination and fine motor skills as we used finger painting on each letter. We had lots of fun doing this!

A big thank you to the nursery boys and girls who very kindly helped to clear out our sand pit and dig up all the weeds.  We have a very kind parent who volunteered to do it but unfortunately due to circumstances he wasn’t able to help so we gathered up our spades and rakes and got to work. What a good job boys and girls! We can now have lots of fun in the sand pit.

Have a look at all of the number related activities that we did last week.  We had lots of fun and managed to learn 2 new number songs and actions. Ask the children and they will demonstrate for you. 5 Little Speckled Frogs and 1,2,3,4,5 Once I caught a fish alive.

In Nursery we have been encouraging the children to become more independent. They can all put on their own coats but we have been encouraging them to try to zip it up by themselves. We are super proud as most of the children can do this and all of the children are trying very hard. Keep up the super work boys and girls. 😁

The Nursery children all participated in wearing an item of clothing that related to numeracy on Friday. We wore lots of numbers, spots, stripes and some people were even very creative.  Well done everyone.

This week in school and Nursery we are having Number Week. The nursery children will be taking part in lots of number activities within 5. Yesterday the children who stayed for extended nursery made some fairy buns. They were able to help measure out the ingredients by looking for the numbers on the recipe. We talked about lots of numbers and used mathematical language during this activity.  Today each child decorated their own fairy bun.  They had to choose and count 5 different sweets to put on top. Let’s say, they left nursery with a big smile ready to eat their bun when they got home.
Well done boys and girls, what a good start to Number Week. 😁😁    1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣4️⃣5️⃣

This week we had our first session with Sarah from Mind Explorers NI. We really enjoyed it and Sarah couldn’t believe our fantastic listening skills.  We tried really hard with practising our breathing techniques too.  We are looking forward to the next 5 weeks and learning lots of new mindfulness tools.

On Friday 14th January, Mrs Pollock took the children up to the greenhouse and planted some bulbs.  They enjoyed exploring and looking around at all of the gardening tools and also helping to plant the bulbs.  We hope we can get up again to do some more planting for the Spring.
Thank you Mrs Pollock.

Today during outdoor play some boys and girls were trying very hard to practise their balancing skills. You can see they are using their arms to help them to balance and try not to wobble off the walking beams.  Well done boys and girls!

This week we have been encouraging the children to practise zipping up their own coats.  Some children have been very determined and have been practising lots at home.  Well done to these boys and girls and they were very proud when they received a certificate in assembly this morning.  Keep trying hard everyone! 👍
