Our topic for term 3 is yum yum - an opportunity to learn all about foods, where they grow and experiment with tasting. Today we sampled watermelon which mostly a hit with the children! We worked together to write a descriptive poem about its taste, it’s an appearance and how it feels to touch. I was so impressed with their ability to engage all their senses and select words to describe them.

This week the children have been busy planting their own strawberry plants and learning about how to care for them. The sun made our time in the garden and greenhouse so much fun!

Thank you to Parklands Vets in Drumahoe for visiting our school. We found out how microchips work and the children got to scan the teddy dog to find the micro chip. We tested our oxygen level with the device that is used when dogs are in surgery and we found out about the work that vets do. We also met a very cute lamb.

Thanks to Anna from NI Water for visiting our whole school to educate us on looking after our water and reducing water use and blockages. We were given some great advice on how to make better choices such as having a shower over a bath. Anna challenged us to have a shower in just 4 minutes! We are so excited to try to improve our use of water in school, watch out, our eco kids are coming!
