Our term 3 topic is Off we go… so far we’ve been learning about the Artemis moon mission, what it’s like to be an astronaut and we’ve had a go at designing our own space helmets. Following this we discussed different types of transport. Outside, the children did a survey on the traffic passing the school. The most popular vehicle was a car and the children were disappointed that no bikes were spotted during the survey. Next up we will be going on a journey with Mr Gumpy and his car, stayed tuned for more updates!

Our topic for term 3 is yum yum - an opportunity to learn all about foods, where they grow and experiment with tasting. Today we sampled watermelon which mostly a hit with the children! We worked together to write a descriptive poem about its taste, it’s an appearance and how it feels to touch. I was so impressed with their ability to engage all their senses and select words to describe them.

This week the children have been busy planting their own strawberry plants and learning about how to care for them. The sun made our time in the garden and greenhouse so much fun!

This week we welcomed a vet and veterinary nurse from Parklands vets, Drumahoe. They brought along a lamb, Ian, who really touched the hearts of our kids here in Artigarvan! The children listened so carefully and gave excellent ideas as to foods our pets at home should eat to stay healthy, but also foods that could cause them harm such as grapes and chocolate. The vet brought along x-ray pictures of animals which the children had lots of fun guessing the animal!

A huge thank-you to Parklands vet for this fantastic visit! 🐑👩‍⚕️
